FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Glencross Wood Accountants

What Documents do I need to bring for Taxes?

It depends on your situation, but the usual list is: your P60 if you are employed, P11Ds for any benefits in kind, dividend vouchers from any companies you own shares in, mortgage statements if you rent out a property, records of any self-employed income and expenses, bank interest certificates, and pension contribution statements. We will email you a checklist before we start
work so nothing is missed. If you are not sure whether something is relevant, send it anyway — we would rather have too much information than too little.

What makes you better than other accountants?

Three things. First, you will speak to the same person every time — no being passed between juniors. Second, our fees are fixed and agreed in advance, so you will never get a surprise bill.
Third, we have been running this practice in Greater Manchester since 1984, which means we have seen most situations before. We are not the cheapest accountants in Manchester and we are not the biggest — we are the ones small business owners stay with for years.

Why switch from my current accountant?

Most of our new clients come to us for one of three reasons: their previous firm got too big and stopped calling them back; they have outgrown a bookkeeper and need real tax planning; or they have just incorporated and want it set up properly from day one. If any of that sounds familiar, it is worth a free 30-minute call. We handle the entire handover from your previous
accountant — you write one short email and we take it from there.

Where are you based?

Apartment 617, 7 Woden Street, Salford, M5 4YE — a short walk from Salford Crescent and easily reached from anywhere in Greater Manchester. We are also happy to meet by video call,
or to visit you on-site if that is easier.

What happens at the free consultation?

Thirty minutes by phone, video, or in person. We listen to where you are, ask a few questions about your business and your existing arrangements, explain how we would work with you, and
answer any questions. At the end of the call you will have a clear idea of whether we are a good fit. No pressure, no sales pitch.

Can I message an accountant online?

Yes — email info@glencrosswood.co.uk or fill in the contact form on this site. We reply within
one working day

I operate a charity, can you help?

Yes. We work with several small Manchester charities on their year-end accounts and Charity Commission filings. The rules are different from a normal limited company, so it is worth a
conversation before engaging.

Do I need to meet you in person?

Not unless you want to. Many of our clients work entirely by phone, email and video call — we send documents securely, sign electronically, and meet face-to-face only if it is useful. If you
would rather meet for a coffee, we are always happy to see you.

Who do you help?

Small to medium-sized limited companies, partnerships, sole traders, and individuals submitting self-assessment returns. Most of our clients are owner-managed businesses turning over
anything from £10,000 – £2 million, but we work with everyone from one-person consultancies to multi-director companies. If you are not sure whether we are a fit, ask.

I have a quick tax or accounting question, can you help?

For existing clients, yes — that is what we are here for, and quick questions are included in your fixed fee. For non-clients, we are happy to point you in the right direction on a free consultation;
we just cannot give detailed advice without understanding your full circumstances.

Am I due any tax back?

Possibly. Common reasons people overpay tax include: being put on the wrong tax code, claiming insufficient expenses against self-employed income, missing pension contribution reliefs, or losing track of allowable employment expenses. If you have not had a tax review in a few years, it is worth a half-hour call.
